Forest School Training Level 3, East Sussex
Welcome to our Open College Network West Midlands, Level 3 Certificate for Forest School Leaders.
Location: Our Forest School Training takes place at Mill Woods, near Laughton, East Sussex and at Parkwood Campsite near Brighton.
Part 1: (4 days) Wednesday 18th March, Thursday 19th March at Mill Woods, Monday 23rd March & Tuesday 24th March at Parkwood Campsite.
Part 2: (3 days) Wednesday 29th April, Thursday 30th April & Friday 1st May 2020 at Mill Woods.
Part 3: (2 days) Tuesday 2nd June & Wednesday 3rd June 2020 at Mill Woods.
About our Training:
Approved by the Forest School Association and awarded by the Open College Network West Midlands, this Level 3 Certificate provides the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to prepare learners for employment as a Forest School Leader.
The training will combine key principles of Forest School with best practice from Environment and Nature Education, child development, the world of play (wild, free and therapeutic play) delivered by our professional team who have many years experience.
Circle of Life Training are now providing online learning resources to supplement this in-depth direct training. These documents are laid out in an easy to understand format that link to the Forest School Units. We also supply useful video material, links to best practice, a student upload to share valuable resources and the option to download resources for you to keep.

The Forest School Training is based on best practice and research which includes:

The OCN accreditation training carries a total of 18 credits at Level 3 and consists of 5 units.

Guided Learning hours (GLH) supervised or direct study time required for a unit (indicative).
Total Qualification Time (TQT) number of guided learning hours (GLH) plus the time taken by learner for private study or work experience.

Who is the training designed for?
This Level 3 Training is designed for professionals already working with young people who wish to establish and deliver a Forest School/Environmental Education programme.
It is appropriate for those over the age of 21 years with relevant Level 2 or above qualifications (teachers, youth workers, playworkers, rangers, ecologists or teaching assistants with significant experience of working with young people or adults (at least two years).
Are there any other course requirements?
Assessment will combine written work, use of practice file, reflective logs, practical demonstrations and group discussion. This training requires a significant level of paper work e.g short written assignments, risk assessments and health and safety policies. If you have any concerns in this area please let us know in advance.
Participants should also have access to a group with whom they will run a six-week Forest School Programme. All participants must be DBS checked and hold a first aid certificate by the end of the Training. This can be a 16-hour ITC outdoor first aid certificate or equivalent. A tailored two-day First Aid in the Outdoors, delivered and certified by a provider registered with the HSE, is also acceptable.
